Give A Hand….a poem from June 27th 2003 by Mary Gannon

“Give A Hand” -June 27, 2003 @ 8:25 am by Mary Wagemann Gannon

Give a hand

touch a heart

in this land

with so much art /

Together we can win

yes, you and I

again and again

we will fly /

To the sky

we will fly

yes, you and I

will never die /

So give a hand

come on now

come inside

and I will show you how

to make a difference of peace and love

in the world, in this day and age ! //

2 Poems And A Story

“Ol’ Western Sunset”

ol’ western sunset

shining bright,

glowing with might! /

ol’ western sunset

whispering to the trees,

dancing with the wolves,

singing with the birds

won’t you laugh with me? /

pour out your love of

wondrous colors

to the Heavens

forevermore /

play with me

ol’ western sunset

and show yourself

to the world

just what you’re made of

and pour out your love unto thee! //

“The Creation of Lake Roosevelt”

On a warm yet seemingly unpleasant day, there was a little girl crying all alone. Out of nowhere, there came an old man who wanted to cheer up the little girl. Therefore, he asked her why she was crying so much. She looked up with tears streaming down her face, and said “My name is Eleanor Roosevelt and I just lost my puppy named Strider”. Just then, a tear fell to the ground and created a lake. The old man had a hunch and so he looked to his right and all of a sudden, there came this little black lab puppy. He was swimming toward little Eleanor Roosevelt who sprang to her feet and started to cuddle with her little Strider. Word got around in less than a day, and that is how the famous Lake Roosevelt came to be! //

“Sunday Mornin’”

sunday mornin’ comes and i wake up, get ready for church, pulling on my pretty red satin shirt and my faded denim jeans / i look in my mirror and see heavy bags under my eyes / i think to myself, why do i look this bad almost every day, but my reflection / in the mirror says i only look tired / i ignore it, dabbing on concealer / and say, now that’s better! but a question burnin’ inside me just pushin’ to get out / makes me wonder why i put me down …. / for what matters is not what you look like on the outside, / rather, the beauty that shines through from the inside! / so i look at my reflection and we smile to each other! / i thank the Heavens for one of the sweetest gifts of all which is knowing / i am loved by my sweet-hearted family which includes all my all-too-furry friends / who can’t help but smile at me and you at least once every day! / this is my beautiful, lively life ….//

Poetry Once Again

* I wrote this poem because I miss my mom, and then started thinking about my grandparents who are in Heaven. And now, I want everyone in my heart to know: whether you’re a human  or an  animal,  on earth or in Heaven, you’ll always be in my heart! *

“I’ve Got A Memory Of You”

i’ve got a memory of you

written on my soul

and when things don’t go

just the way i plan

i take a moment to hold it closely

and breathe in the  wind

then i look to the sky

and sense your smile

spread far across the stars

and even though you’re not here

there’s nothing i can fear

because i know that you

are never far away

and i’m happy for your memory

is always a light against the cold

and forever it keeps me warm!

“Freedom for all World-kind (an ode to Maya Angelou)”

The world is like a flock of ‘caged birds’ who dream of the day when freedom is universal…

The birds are of no particular sex, rather, they’re like you AND me, wishing for true liberty and peace for all world-kind … everlasting in truth …

The birds – indeed, we – are surrounded by injustice EVERYWHERE we go … only one of many examples is that when we see a life being treated with no dignity, it is expected of us to act purely out of ‘human decency’ and put an end to the pain anybody has suffered from WITHOUT causing any additional pain … the ONLY definite way to achieve this task is to put your foot down and SAY NO TO INJUSTICE OF ALL KINDS

Freedom for ONLY ONE will never be Freedom for ALL

        P

FREEDOM

        A

        C

        E

Freedom is a God-given RIGHT to all world-kind

NOTHING humans can accomplish could ever change the RIGHT TO BE FREE into a privilege

SO, how does EVERYONE become FREE, JUSTLY?

The answer is that ALL WORLD-KIND MUST ACCEPT UNIVERSAL EQUALITY

To achieve this … we must not put up with SOCIETAL LAWS AND PRACTICES which promote HATRED AND INJUSTICES of ANY KIND

SO I TELL THEE:  Band TOGETHER to Peacefully end ALL INJUSTICE against ALL World-Kind because when we WORK TOGETHER, WE WILL WIN ANY FIGHT!

Once there was a spider and his name was Larry. His friends called him Harry Larry, and soon he was known as Harry Larry. One day Harry Larry and his friends walked and walked until they could walk no more. Larry found a rock. They soon found out that it was a turtle, and so they asked it “What is your name?” The turtle said, “Henry is my name. What is your name?” the turtle asked Harry Larry.
“Well, my name of course, which everybody knows, is Harry Larry,” he said. Harry Larry and his friends walked and walked until they could walk no longer. After they walked three miles they spotted a tree and took a nap.

Four minutes later they woke from their nap, found a few flies and ate them for dinner. For dessert, they had chocolate covered grasshoppers. “Oh, this is yummy,” said Henry. “What should we do?” asked Larry to Henry. Then Henry said, “I know let’s get a drink. Let’s go get a drink at the water fall.” “Ah….. this is refreshing,” said Henry and his friends.

“There Is A Lonely Child”

there is a lonely child

a shy girl

in a whole new world

no one knows her name

because no one plays

any of her games /

no one on earth

has ever dared

to talk to her or

to be a shoulder

for her, so sad today,

to cry out all her tears upon /

and to dry her tears and comfort her for years to come

but if someone finally does come

then they will be the only

one for always and forever

…..

“Sunrise, Sunrise (I’m lookin’ in your eyes)”

sunrise, sunrise

i’m lookin’ in your eyes

you tell me you can’t wait ’til sunset

so you can rest again so i assure you

you’ll get to rest soon enough

but right now ya just have to keep

pouring out your beauty

and without a doubt,

your little playmate

will want to show his sunset beauty

and let you spill out your

“sweet dreams” and his beautiful themes

into your little sleepy

friends’ minds

’til morning is nigh

“Ballad of Our Love”

there’s no white Christmas

that is as sweet as you,

nor as peaceful and wonderful as you

you are beyond beautiful,

because you are the dazzling

diamond of the most precious friendships

you define elegance,

and you’re amazing and awesome;

you are my strength of peace

and my only love forever, too

oh darling, i wanna rise Above with only you.!.

…..

“Hold Me Baby”

hold me baby

take me in your arms

and hold me tight

in darkness

and in light

swing me ’round

from left to right /

i can be your only

and you will never

ever be lonely

when you’re in my arms /

you are always in my heart

and i’ll forever take

you under my wing

and this love song

will i sing

for short and long

my darling

…..

“Of Sounds And Silences. . . .”

after i took an hour’s nap -

today – i bought two sacks of beads

and a necklace chain

and before i fly to the ocean

like a sparrow, i will

string my necklace

with one sack of beads

then as i head downstairs

to catch a breath of air

i shall cut open the second sack of beads

and shower them onto the counter

for ‘t will be the first time i’ve heard the sound

of beads hitting a counter /

then once i’m done having that bit o’ fun

i shall take off into the sky

all the while praying for those dark clouds

to let their sweet waters

drift unto the ocean of blues

as i attempt to rest once again

(listening closely to the rain on the ocean)

LYRICS OF Jesus Christ’s LOVE, GRACE, PEACE, & GLORY

“Your Grace is More” -LYRICS By Mary Wagemann Gannon, 11.16.09

CHORUS 1:

Your Grace is more

Than enough for me Oh Lord

Your Love is one thing I adore

And know I will always afford /

CHORUS 2:

Your Trust in me

Has always set me free

And if in You I didn’t believe

I don’t know who I’d be /

I love to trace

The lines of Love on Your face

And soak up Your Grace

In all the world’s places /

And if I didn’t believe in You

I know I’d be forever blue

And so I yearn to always pray with truth

To feel Your Grace, Glory, and Peace anew /

“Will You Remember Me?” -LYRICS by Mary Wagemann Gannon, 7.7.2009

        * DEDICATED TO MY 3 GRANDPARENTS. *

CHORUS: Will you remember me?

Will you cherish always

the memories we made together?

Will you say you will

love me forever? /

Even though you’ve seen

my body come as dust to the earth,

will you promise to know forever

that I love you for all you’re worth? /

Will you stay strong

even after I’ve been gone

for awhile?

Will you try your best to smile

thru your tears? /

Will you dry your tears

of years of depression

and will you try keeping

that sweet ol’ glint

in your hazel eyes from weeping? /

CHORUS. //

Lyrics Amore

“40 Days, 40 Nights” –Lyrics by Mary Wagemann Gannon, 9.11.09; 10.4-5.09.
40 days, 40 nights
Lord, I wonder
could I keep temptation at bay?
Could I give You my love always
and show You I wish to follow
in Your Ways?

Lord Jesus, You are my pain release
You are the reason my heart beats
God I wonder, if I had to choose
between people and things I love or You
what road would I take?
What choice would I make?

CHORUS:
I wanna be
strong in Your Spirit
Lord let me feel It
I wanna be
true to Your Word
Lord let me hear It

If there ever came a day
where I was to give my heart away
for the last time in my life
would I give it to You,
my King of Heaven’s Truth and Love?
And how would this make me feel:
would I feel joy in all its realness
or would I come face-to-face
with an internal conflict
too hard to overcome?

God, I know now that just as I’ve chosen You
so, too, have I become
stronger in Your Spirit and
truer to Your Word.

CHORUS 1x. //

Never Let The Good Times Roll Away! & MORE POETRY

“Never Let The Good Times Roll Away!” -1.28.09

As someone once sang

in a song I love

‘…it’s not what you take when you

leave the world behind you…

it’s what you leave behind you

when you go’

So think about what and who

you’d be leavin’ in this world

     and think again

if you think the world’s come

     to an early end -

don’t try to end your life

no matter how much pain you really feel

     ’cause the resulting grief

     from your painfully sad choice

will leave your loved ones ‘n’ friends

dwelling on a grief that never fully ends

So maybe you Don’t love life

right now…but I know

that it’ll all get better soon somehow

so if you can–try to see

a better future ahead

for you and me:

one that won’t be soaked in dread or grief;

And never let the good times roll away!

“raisin; love; raisin” -2.25.09

The raisin seemed as old as a dinosaur fossil

unearthed from a canyon

The love of my life is a Heavenly rose

blooming on the kitchen window sill

Love is a long wooden spoon

stirring the fresh lemonade

Love is a paperclip

holding things together

Love is like a raisin in the sun

turnin’ back into a grape

“Spend My Nights with You” -2009

Come and sit by me

While the night is still

Full of a blissfilled chill

Lay on the grass and smell

The African daisies

Because when you’re in some sort o’ Hell

Ya really can’t be lazy

So let us pray

Now so that we may be

Together here in this tranquility

Beyond the end of eternity

This is how I want to

Spend my nights with you!

Grandpa to the Power of 2: All I Ever Wanted…and more poetry by Mary Wagemann Gannon

“Grandpa to the Power of 2: All I Ever Wanted” –3.23.09

All I ever wanted

Was to have a little more time with you

What I got was a dramatic pause

On the flow of our relationship as friends

All I ever wanted

Was to spend my days and nights

Cuddled in your familiar warmth

Safe from harm as long as

I was in your grandfather arms

What I got when you flew to Heaven

Was an eternal sense of pain release

For I knew you were immediately at peace

And Grandpa, all I ever wanted

Was to tell you just one more time

How good you always were to me

What I got was the knowledge

That you’ll always be my grandfather

And I’ll always be your granddaughter

on it and reflects back

giving Me a feeling

of honest bliss

while I attempt

to float on my back

even though I’ve never been able to before

LYRICS: Looking at You Baby (An Eternity of Love)

“Looking at You Baby (An Eternity of Love)” -9.7.09 by Mary Wagemann Gannon

When I saw you in your red high heels

And black-and-white dress

Walking down the aisle

Baby I must confess

I was looking at you and I couldn’t feel

That our love could be anything but deep and real

For forever and a while

When I see your red lipstick

Painted on your gorgeous lips Baby

Every day we have together

Baby I must admit

My mind jumps back to our first kiss

When we swore our love would last for eternity

I love you Baby

Like no other heart can do

I love the way you smile at me

As we kiss and hug in church

On Sunday morning

I love it when you say

You’ll always be mine

And I can’t wait for this evening

When we’ll go to bed and turn off the light

When I see your red lipstick

Painted on your gorgeous lips Baby

Every day we have together

Baby I must admit

My mind jumps back to our first kiss

When we swore our love would last for eternity

When I see you in your red high heels

And black-and-white dress

Baby I must confess

I can’t help but smile as I look at you

‘Cause you remind me our love will always be rare and true

Just like you making me feel

The sun’s rays lighting up my days

And Baby your smiles just make my blues

Fade away and into the lost beats of time

As we promise our love will last for an eternity

“Seeds of My Heart” -9.14.09 by Mary Wagemann Gannon

I yearn to grow in my faith in You

I long to give praise to You for Your Words of Truth

I wanna sow the seeds of my heart

And I want You to forever be a part

Be a part of my life

I want to sow the seeds

Of my lonely, lost heart

And pick out the weeds

So they can stop being a part

Being a part of me

I need to know You will always

Be there for me

Throughout every step

Every step of my life

And I need to keep

Working up the courage

To stray not from

Your path lit by Your Love

I thirst for Your Voice

Guiding me to the right choice

That I can make

So I may see more clearly

The road that I must take

And because I love You dearly

I need Your help to pick the weeds

From my heart of pains

And sow the seeds

Of my lost, lonely heart of love

And give me the strength to dance

Dance in the rains once again

I want to sow the seeds

Of my lonely, lost heart

And pick out the weeds

So they can stop being a part

Being a part of me

And so I can feel free

To do Your Will oh Lord

He is my strength; He is my Maker

“You Are My Strength, Lord” –Mary W. Gannon, Wednesday, September 23, 2009.

Someone tore my heart up once

Breaking it almost beyond repair

But You, dear God, were always there

Always there for me.

When I smiled and when I’d weep

I didn’t understand who You were;

But You were on my side

And You held me tight

Whether I was brave or afraid.

You helped me stand tall

And because of You, I became not afraid at all.

CHORUS: Every time I cried

A part of me would have died

Had You not been there

To Show me how Truly You Cared.

Looking back on the years

That I cried so many tears

Over that time, I pray in

My heart and soul

And I ask You the question

To the Answer I already know:

Can I ever find forgiveness for this person?

I thought I had nobody

Nobody to comfort and hold me

And wipe away my tears

All those lonely years;

And the Answer is Yes! I can forgive,

Because of all the Love that You Promised me

And as I knew It would keep me safe from harm

In Your Unconditionally Loving arms

I came to know that You are my strength, Lord.

You’re my Maker and my strength; Guide me

Thru all my pains; help me see Your Light.

And every time I cried, A part of me would have died

Had You not been there to Show me how Truly You Cared.

rant of love and secrets of love – poetry

“An Afternoon Rant Before Profession of Love” –Sept. 3 and 8, 2009

Baby you’re wonderful

and when I see you my heartbeat thunders

for you’re 100 trakrillion times more

seductive than the sunrise after a storm.

You told me once:

‘I hate all peppermint sundaes

I love all Sunday night peppermint baths

..

I hate the feeling of splinters in my hands

I love it when sand slithers between my toes

..

I hate poetry that sinks into my mind

I love poems which drink up my thoughts

..

I hate bad weather when it lasts all day

I love great music that says

exactly what all’s on

the tip of my tongue’

…You’re always the first

thought on my mind b/c

when you smile at me

the gleam in your eyes just takes

me back to last month’s few weekdays

that I spent time soaking up

Florida’s Miami Beach rays.—. Then I float away

with you at my side, dreaming of our

honeymoon carnival ride.

“Love Letters….and Secrets—” –9.8.09

You and I

saw eye 2 eye

when we talked about

….our love

but now Baby

you deny you’re walking around

….our shattered town

that’s foreverly wetter

than a victorian platter full of old

….and worn love letters

spilling over with your secrets untold.

I Am A Dreamer: Poetry

“The Mirror” -written 8.24.09

I stare into my mirror

I recoil at what I see, and a song forms in my ears

And instantly it brings me to tears

For it plays a melody of a far different octave

Than the song in my heart;

I need to be serene.

..I begin to breathe

In the style of a snail learning

To glide along on a patch

Of grass among boulders.

….Then a thought splits my concentration :

This cannot be, I assure myself

I do not resemble that reflection!

I resume my slow breathing—

Counting to ten, I lay on my back

Spotting my forgotten dreams in the clouds

My arms, bent and folded, replace my favorite pillow:

They protect my head; only now…it’s

From the weeds and sow bugs.—.

I turn sideways on the grass

Rounding the corners of

The walls inside my mind

And I try to find the one way

That I can use to make this a better day

Than I thought it was when it began.

At last! I have the answer.

I keep breathing

Slowly

Breathe in. stop. Breathe out.

I listen to the song in my heart

And Take it one day, one breath At a time.

Catholic Charities -CONTEST Poem

below is the poem i wrote for the July/August 2009 Catholic Charities national contest where the winning poem will be turned into a song by the Los Lonely Boys –who i love, at least their song  ’Heaven’– and the organization itself –Not the winning poet– will get $10,000. i love being charitable, so i was totally up for this, plus it helps out a charity i deeply care for.

and without further ado (sorry if i misspelled that; i think i did)…the poem :)

“Why We Need Catholic Charities” -7.31.09 by Mary W. Gannon

Catholic Charities thrives on acts of kindness, compassion, and the willingness to educate

others about the world in which we live; its people are of the utmost importance as they

put into action the promises of hope, teaching respect and dignity and survival; they’re

the epitome of hard work, peace, intellect, and the triumphs we hope to face upon

following our dreams. The many people at the heart of this organization are a beacon of

the diversity in the light of God; never trying to force others to believe in God, they give

of themselves daily in an attempt to spread the promise of Christ’s saving love for all.

They give aid to all, helping them rise above their struggles constantly and courageously.

‘Sisters’ & ‘Heaven Is…’ & ‘Laughter (Caught in the Wind)’

“Sisters” -5.6.09

I stop pedaling my bike

to think a minute about

the currents of our love

I see the sun shining now

as I wish away the storm

that tries to wipe away

my smile

then I begin to pedal again

and dream of the rhythms of

our sisterly bond and finally

the dream ends and I wish

that you and I could still be friends.

“Heaven Is…” -2009

Heaven Is…an african daisy

glistening gracefully from the

dewdrops falling from the

summer clouds of time;

Heaven Is…me being your

friend and you being mine;

Heaven Is…all the pretty

rhymes floating in the wintry

breeze and people saying

Bless you when you sneeze;

Heaven Is…the view from the

treetops all round the world

and the sun shining pleasantly

on you as you dance to the

sensational rhythms of chance;

Heaven Is…a baby bird learning

how to fly and a child

asking his or her parent

why the world turns;

and Heaven Is…the one place

we all should aspire to go

when it’s our time

to fully see our Maker’s face.

“Laughter (Caught in the Wind)” -5.21.09

I look at you

you look away

I look to the skies

and wonder why…

Why do you

look away

away from me

and to the sea?

I laugh at the sunshine

as I pray for a sweeter

rhyme soaking

up the rays

hoping for a few bright days

and then my laughter

seems to be caught

in the wind; our

troubles we’ve forgotten

so we’ll have hope

to live almost

happily ever after.

“My Love Song To We” -5.18.09

Even if the day shall arrive

When I can no longer see

I will know that I have seen your beauty

Made more extravagant

By the pebbles of sunlight

Beaming upon you

You have a beauty that speaks

With a power from His Grace

And you will always have my love

Wrapping you in sensational tranquility, I pray

For I could not destroy my love for you

Even if I tried

Oh, baby, I would never try

To keep my heart from craving your love

For I feel like you help make me

The strongest person I can dream to be

This is my love song to we.

“My Soul’s Energetic Defeat” -5.25.09

When I think back

To the year that

Happened long ago

When I was in 4th grade

I close my eyes

And remember that really cool

Little kids’ Spanish show

I used to watch in the classroom—

That I’ve read is from

The late ‘80s—called ‘Amigos’

I remember then, that I had

Always loved most

The character named

Perro Pepe; I thought he was

The coolest fictional dog

Ever to come alive

Someway

Then I close my eyes again

And listen to the rain

And relish the days

I would dance in the rain

With my then best friend

I thought if I could just

Relive those days

Then I’d for sure

See the sun’s rays

Not just when it’s the daytime

But even in the glorious night

Turning back over

The pages of time

I recline, stomach down

On my longtime favorite couch

And wonder if the rain’s finally done

I decide, No, the rain just

Must have slowed to a drizzle

And so I continue typing

On my laptop (there’s nothing

Else to do)

; I feel like griping

For I miss the pop pop pop

Of the rain on the window panes

But I do not gripe, rather I have hope

That nature’s glory will soon return

To the sounds of one of the four elements

; as I tell my story of today

I look happy at the way

The sun peeks thru the blinds

On the window before me—I see

The sun start to dance to the crisp silence of death

That tries to force its way into my mind

And try as the silence might, it does not bring forth

The start of my declining breath.

As God Is my Judge and my Witness

I know that I—

I am not one to give in—to the beast

Of my soul’s energetic defeat!

“The Most Graceful Wonder” -5.11.09

There are many wonders

in the world, flowers

and trees growing tall

and swaying in the afternoon breeze

but the most graceful wonder

I can’t help but smile at is

the bond we’ve created and

the strength of our friendship

which will surely be

strong and true for all time;

when I need a friend to talk to

and it’s not something

for my dogs’ ears,

I know I can turn to you

for I’ve grown to trust you

over several years;

I will never compare you to

my other friends for I feel

that all of them

are different than you, my friend

…only God Knows

how much time we have to spend

in all our relationships

but even if the world

were to end today or t’morrow

I know my friendship w/you

will have been filled

with the bliss of sunshine

but I also must assure

you that I’m ever thrilled

to have known you

for what seems like forever! / DEDICATED TO JANET M. //

“Sore to My Core Nevermore” -5.11.09

No one can force my soul or mind

to uphold the irons that insist

on keeping me in a bind

to your memory; I will resist

the pull of that mighty wind

which threatens me ever slowly

and I won’t give in to its strength

that tries to tear me to shreds;

and when I close my eyes

I won’t ever again picture your face

filled with the lies

your heart wanted to place

in my head, saying you loved me

even though as I moved on,

your unjust & selfish actions

proved your words wrong…

and ’cause you’re not-a-more

in my thoughts

I have long been able

to put aside your memory

and be sore to my core

nevermore. //

“I Am The Conquerer” -5.11.09

in the afternoon shade

I create a set of arrows

which I imagine will point

me to the only place

where I could forget

your pitiful face…I

follow them with no intent

to run away from you;

no, I will fight only with peace and God at my side,

allowing me to have no regrets

along my journeys…when I conquer you,

the world will know you were not my enemy, just a foe

whose attacks upon me

I knew I would choose to let go of.

I have conquered my fear of my foe

and it is along the next path of my journey

that I will go.

“Remembering (I won’t sink down)” -5.10.09

No words I have ever heard

someone else tell their loved ones

who’ve passed on, can illustrate

the depth of my love for you

and no painting or drawing

or sculpture can ever show

how much my love

for you is sure to grow

even after you fly for the last time

to the Heavens Above

with your heart and arms

opened warmly to greet me

when He will set my soul

free to fly away, many years

from now, I hope

and with your love

and His Love, all that is true

will drown the self-destruction

that’s constantly trying to make

the world lonely; even when

the flowers of honesty seem

to blow away in the wild wind

I know that with my hopes

of eternal peace and love

I shall hold in my heart

God’s Promise to help

me cope forever thru all my years

with my fears

that try to pull my soul

down into its puddle of tears;

but I will not drown,

I won’t sink down

and I’ll infinitely be

remembering my love

for you three. /DEDICATED TO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA GANNON AND GRANDPA WAGEMANN. //

“A Time When Compassion Overcame Hate” –1.15.09

they tried to burn our flag

with their destructive hate

they tried to kill us with despair

and they tried to use a power

that they didn’t have

but they could not win the fight

because we were determined

to win it ourselves

which we did—as one—again and again

thru the following years

we hugged and loved evermore

and promised ourselves

and loved ones that we’d try

to recover from the many kinds of scars

etched into our grieving hearts

and—when united in compassion

—we gathered strength anew

we fought hard at every moment

that we were on the road of stolen time

as we came together once again

in love and compassion and

peaceful comradeship and vowing

to always remember happily

the lives that brought us everlasting joy //

“Angels Sing”

Angels sing,

With love

They bring

Their Heavenly

Dreams.

And they all

Float in the warm

And fluffy clouds

While praising the Lord, the King

Of ALL wonders

As they ponder

And dance all day

And pray all night,…

To the music

They rejoice aloud! //

“Kindness and Compassion: For Rachel Scott”

Don’t judge me based on your first three

Impressions, don’t judge me because

Of rumors, and never say you know me

Till you’ve asked me a few questions

About my past and some

Of my life lessons

            Don’t try to hurt me

To make yourself feel better

And please don’t gimme pity

‘cause I’ve got my heart

Broken too many times

Not to know the truth

Of what you’ve spoken to me

Don’t put me down

Or push me to the ground

For I’ll only show you my pride

And always fight for what I believe is right

            Don’t laugh at me

To show you think you’re superior

            Because I won’t ever stand

To be labeled as inferior

Don’t label me as average

Don’t call me an unworthy coward

For in truth, compassion, and peace

My heart is never weak

Rather it’s powered by my faith

Not one of us is better than the other

Nor are we ever unworthy of the joys

            That are revealed when

            Someones become friends

So let’s come together now

And work for peace and tolerance and truth

All of us forever — YES! It’s me and you! //

“Letter To Our Leader – 1.20.2009”

You have a task ahead — a test —

it starts today

and if I might add. . .

some advice for your success:

(a)        You must try hard

     to do what your

                 heart says is right;

(b)        You must do your best

     to pass this next

     part of America’s giant test;

(c)        You need to keep

                 the realization that this test

                 comes to you from all her people;

(d)       And most of all

you have been given the power

     to protect this beautiful nation

I believe in you and I trust

that you will try

your very best

to pass this test

and to not only always do what’s right

— but — also to ensure that America

will always stand strong

and have hope that we can all get along

as we all forever help one another

fly her flag of honor! //

 “I Am” –1.21.09

I am from the Country music days

Of Alan Jackson, singin’ and dancin’ my own dance

To all his music from my childhood

I am from the wild days

Of the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys and ‘Nsync crazes

I am from the fields of wildflowers in Alaska and Canada

I am from Coronado Beach in Cali-forn-i-a

And the repeated rock-n-roll craze

Of the Beatles and Hootie and the Blowfish

I am from the love of

Filling up my beloved dogs’ food and water dishes

And spoiling them every chance I get

I am from the generation of the Harry Potter

And Wizard Rock bands crazes

And from my infatuation of many museums

In several places I have always loved

I am from the love for and of and support of and for

My family and friends but also strangers

Who I hope to become friends with

I am from a family of mostly Democrats

But also from those same family members

Who I know I can express any feelings to

At any points of time I wish

I am from a family of mostly animal lovers

And from a family of God lovers

And I’m from a family of many

Different racial backgrounds but it doesn’t matter

To any of us who is from where

Or made of what colors

‘Cause we all know everyone is equal

No one is superior

And no one is inferior

I am an activist for equality and peace

And a writer and thinker for eternity

I am a poet who lives for

And breathes poetry

And my oxygen comes from my many talents

And loves such as my poetry and my dogs

And the rest of my family as well as

My very best friends

And I know a lot but I also

Have a lot to learn as yet

I am from a family of lovers of school

Even though I haven’t always proven it

But I will succeed in school

And in my love of God and in my life, too

çThat’s a sure bet!

2009 – Laughter & Fear, Twilight, Velvet Ears

“On Twilight” –MWG, 12.21.08

i love falling alseep

in my bedroom in winter

snuggled up and cozy under my toasty covers

with the raindrops drumming

on my one window /

sometimes when it’s late at night

and i can’t sleep

i lay awake listening

to the sounds of the rain /

right now. . .it’s not raining

but i can sense that

it might rain later

or maybe tomorrow /

i dream of falling alseep

again to the rain

beating against my window. . .

[now. . . as i listen to a

'free excerpt' of Twilight

by Stephenie Meyer /

so far, i think it is

   really intriguing] /

on another note. . .

i wonder if anyone could

ever count all the stars

in the sky??   //

“Ode To Velvet Ears” –MWG, 12.21.08

sweeter than molasses

softer than suede

more beautiful than the

world’s rarest diamond

kinder than a mama bear to her cubs

you’re my angel with big dog paws

and you’re the loving and lovable lap dog

who weighs almost as much as me

and you have the cutest face and an expression

of almost constant happiness, forever highlighted by

                                  your floppy velvet ears!!!   //

“Laughter Lacking Fear” –MWG, 11.15.08

I’m missing you and reflecting back

on the wonderful times we’ve shared

and thinkin’ of the moments I felt scared

so you sat and cried with me

then we swam in the deep blue sea each night

and you and I’d dream of the light

from the shooting stars

reflected onto the depths of the water

and when we came up for air

we’d stare at the moon, so high in the sky

and you told me jokes the night thru

as I know it’s easy for you to do

and I laughed, then you laughed

and we’d dream of soaring like an eagle

all the way to the Grand Canyon

then the canyon walls echoed our voices

ringing with laughter (far and near)

and we had each other and so too

         everything

and all we lacked was fear
